Meditation & Embodiment
Stillness, mindfulness, breath, mantra, loving-kindness, and somatic attentiveness—approaches that invite us to know our experience without immediately trying to change it.
Contemplative, relational, and restorative practices rooted in lived inquiry—and offered as invitations, never demands.
Not a formula for becoming someone else, but different ways of meeting lived experience with awareness, dignity, and care.
These areas gather the traditions, approaches, and inquiries that have informed the institute's work. Some are longstanding practices; others are subjects of continuing exploration rather than separately offered services.
Stillness, mindfulness, breath, mantra, loving-kindness, and somatic attentiveness—approaches that invite us to know our experience without immediately trying to change it.
Attuned listening, compassionate communication, family relationships, and the patient work of meeting conflict without losing sight of one another's dignity.
An inquiry into how overwhelming experience can shape the body and mind, and how gentleness, awareness, pacing, and supportive relationships may help cultivate steadiness.
Grief, conscious aging, recovery, storytelling, spiritual questions, and compassionate companionship through the thresholds of living and dying.
Not another self to construct.
A life to meet, as it is.
Within the institute's wider approach, meditation remains a vital foundation. These traditions offer different forms of attention, each with its own history and language. The brief descriptions below are orientations, not instructions for intensive practice.
Settling attention with a gentle focus, often upon the breath, to cultivate calm and steadiness.
Clear seeing: noticing sensations, thoughts, and feelings with openness and discernment.
Mindfulness of the body, feelings, states of mind, and patterns of experience.
Loving-kindness practices extending goodwill toward oneself and other beings.
Sound and repetition as ways of gathering attention and entering contemplative stillness.
Reflective practices exploring tenderness, release, and a less adversarial relationship with experience.
Tea & Zen holds the spoken meditations, podcast reflections, and written library through which many of these explorations can be encountered directly. The institute continues to welcome thoughtful dialogue with practitioners and researchers interested in shared inquiry.
