Presence Before Intervention
Listen before trying to fix. Meet the person before addressing the problem.
An institute of contemplative, relational, and restorative practices, shaped by decades of lived inquiry and offered in the spirit of compassionate service.
Here, the mystery of consciousness meets the deep need for safety, dignity, connection and care.
Discover our purposeMeditation Sans Frontières arose not from abstract theory alone, but from a long journey through suffering, contemplative study, and the gradual discovery of what helps us recover a sense of steadiness, connection, and belonging.
Our work brings together meditative practice, embodied awareness, relational attentiveness and an ongoing interest in the relationship between life experience and the nervous system.
Its intention is simple: to offer compassionate companionship and accessible practices that support people through grief, overwhelm, change and the ordinary difficulties of being alive.
The institute begins with a contemplative conviction: beneath the patterns shaped by fear, loss and survival, dignity and the possibility of connection remain.
We understand each life as an interwoven biological, psychological and social reality. Breath, awareness, respectful relationship and practices of stillness can offer ways of meeting our experience with greater care. Their effects are personal and varied; inquiry remains open.
Healing is not approached as a demand to suppress difficult experience, but as a gradual movement toward integration, safety, and renewed relationship with ourselves and others.
Our teachings, writings, meditations and acts of service are shared freely whenever possible, in the belief that compassion and practical means of care should not be held behind unnecessary barriers.
The teacher does not switch on the light within the student. The encounter helps the student recognize the light that was already there.
Perhaps the deepest part of it is that the light belongs to neither the teacher nor the encounter. The encounter simply creates the conditions in which remembrance becomes possible.
Nothing is given that was not already there.
Not doctrines to defend, but orientations to practice—at a bedside, in a conversation, in silence, and in ordinary life.
Listen before trying to fix. Meet the person before addressing the problem.
Gentle, attuned relationships can help foster the experience of safety and connection.
Worth is inherent—not dependent upon health, history, identity, belief or circumstance.
Suffering may shape experience, but it need not become the whole story of a life.
Our bodies carry adaptation and experience; we approach them with curiosity rather than force.
Lived experience, contemplative wisdom and careful scientific inquiry can inform one another without being confused.
Stillness can create room for rest, reflection and the gentle discovery of what is here.
Offer companionship wherever suffering is encountered, without demanding a shared creed.
Return to tenderness, relationship and care as the guiding spirit of the work.
